Waiting for Mahmoud
A play in to acts by Thomas M. Kelly, © 2012

My name?  Seth Reynolds.  The occupy? It was dropped into my lap when, Jeffery, a friend from Columbia U, and I began picketing the bank across the street. Jeffery knocked up his high school sweetheart when she came to visit. He's in Sacramento selling heating and air and doin' the right thing. The why? We were complaining about the interest rate on our student loans. The bank complained to the city...'n' the city forced us to occupy the park.  I have been asked by several people what this script intends to answer politically, but never socially or culturally.  I feel what it questions is of greater significance.  By questioning it's intent it brings to fore how our politics, our society and our culture are effected by change: if indeed we are to bring about change by our actions or inactions be they naive or mature.   What will be the response of the politic, the society and the culture to efforts to make change?  Will the response be naive or mature?  Selfish or benevolent?  This play offers one answer: "What's in it for me?"
